Get a 769 NumberAbout the 769 Area Code
The 769 area code went live on March 14, 2005 as an overlay sitting on top of 601, which means both codes share the same footprint across central and southwest Mississippi [1]. Because it is an overlay rather than a split, every local call in the region uses 10-digit dialing. If 601 is a sibling you already know, 769 is the one who moved into the same house.
Jackson is the economic anchor for the region, and the metro area carried roughly 301,300 nonfarm jobs in the first quarter of 2026 [2]. Small businesses do a lot of the heavy lifting across the state, with about 99 percent of Mississippi employers falling into that category [3]. That is who a 769 number is really built for: the independent agent, the contractor, the clinic, the restaurant group that wants a Jackson phone presence without the overhead.
Having a local number still matters here. A (769) or (601) prefix on caller ID tells someone in Clinton or Pearl that you are nearby, which keeps answer rates up and makes callbacks feel natural. With Tonet you can hold a Jackson number and route it anywhere, so the person answering can be across town or across the country.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get a (769) number without being in Mississippi?
Yes. You pick the area code in the dashboard and the number works immediately. No Mississippi address, business or SIM is required.
How does (769) compare to (601) for a local business?
They cover the same territory. 769 is the overlay introduced in 2005 when 601 started running out of numbers, and local callers see both codes every day.
Can I bring my existing Jackson number to Tonet?
Yes. Porting is filed from the dashboard at no charge. Most ports complete in 7 to 10 business days, sometimes longer depending on your current carrier, and your number keeps working until the switch.
What does a (769) number cost each month?
Numbers are $2.50 per number per month. Users start at $10 per user per month on Pay As You Go, or $15 per user per month for Unlimited US calling and texting.
Will a (769) number work for 2FA codes from banks or apps?
A Tonet number is a VoIP number. It usually does not work for banking-style 2FA and is case by case elsewhere, so do not count on it for login codes. A US SIM is the dependable route for that.
